The worship tent next to Hulsey Wellness Center collapsed during a storm on Wednesday evening, April 6. Props for SonRise were being stored inside the tent, according to Sherrie Williams, assistant director of SonRise and communication director for the Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists.

Williams said SonRise stores its props in three trailers. However, one trailer was damaged by the April 2020 tornado. SonRise directors were not aware of the damage until last December, according to Williams.

Props inside the damaged trailer were unloaded several weeks ago, cleaned and left in the tent to dry while the trailer was being fixed. Williams said many props are under the tent, including fabric used for Jerusalem, the walls to Jerusalem and the steps and floor staging for the Last Supper.

The extent of damage is currently uncertain. Williams said the university will assess the tent tomorrow, April 7.

SonRise is still scheduled as planned for Saturday, April 16.

“We had challenges this year, and we have overcome those,” Williams said, referring to the damaged trailer. “So, this will not stop us.”
