Earlier today, Southern Adventist University announced in an email from Dennis Negrón, vice president for Student Development, that an immigration attorney will speak to the campus. The email invites all students and employees to attend.
The lawyer will speak briefly and then field questions from the audience. According to the email, he regularly advises Southern regarding student immigration..
The university has also formed a task force that monitors ongoing developments and evaluates potential impacts on the community.
This announcement continues the trend of Seventh-day Adventist institutions responding to Trump’s immigration policy changes. Earlier this week, Pacific Union College released an administrative statement addressing the topic, joining the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Seventh-day Adventist Office for Regional Conference Ministry, the Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and Loma Linda Health as organizations that have put out statements or social media posts.
