I’m going to be honest with you, my friend. I felt a need this week to step away from the usual articles I write. I love writing about passages in the Bible and how they pertain to our lives. I love analyzing them to see what they say. But sometimes, we can get so lost in all the analyzing that we lose focus. I know that I’ve been doing that recently, and perhaps you have too. So, this week, I’m going to do something different.
I’m sure you’ve heard of the song “My Jesus,” by Anne Wilson. When I listened to it today, it put a little thought into my head. She says, “Let me tell you ’bout my Jesus.” So, I’m going to follow her lead and tell you a little bit about my Jesus. I pray that as I do, you’ll remember your Jesus in your life.
Before I was even born, my Jesus knew all about me. He knew who I was going to be, what I was going to look like and how I was going to act. And He was so excited to love me and be loved by me. He simply couldn’t wait until He could experience life with me.
As I grew up, my parents told me about this Jesus. I didn’t really know Him for myself yet, but I heard that He loved me and I knew that my parents loved Him. They encouraged me to choose Him to be my Jesus, too, and to love Him with all my heart. I remember defending my Jesus when kids in my kindergarten class made fun of Him. I couldn’t let them say those things about my Jesus. I longed to help them love Him as I did.
As I grew up, my Jesus was with me all the way. He put me in the right places at the right times, He worked miracles, He answered prayers and He continued to show me how much He loved me. In June 2017, I decided to show everyone that Jesus was mine. I can’t even imagine how happy my Jesus was. All of heaven was rejoicing! And it was simply because of me—that’s how special I am to Him.
But over time, I began to focus more on what I was doing and started to forget that Jesus was mine and that I was His. I wanted to do so many things, but I failed to remember that the most important thing was to love my Jesus with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength. I forgot that His greatest desire was to love me that much—and more!
Slowly but surely, my Jesus has been drawing me back to Him. He’s shown me the same loving kindness He always has, but I have begun to see it in a new way. This is my Jesus we are talking about! He is working miracles and answering my prayers! I know Him! He was mine, is mine and always will be mine!
It’s a crazy thing to realize that the God of the universe—along with the divine Son, who came to die on the cross FOR ME and then literally came to life again, and the powerful Holy Spirit—desires to be with me. My Jesus says that He has loved me with an everlasting love, since before I was born until…well, forever! My Jesus is My Comforter, My Wonderful Counselor, My Father and My God. He is at my right hand and is there for me always, because to be honest, I always need Him!
My Jesus wakes me up every morning. He gives me exactly what I need to not only get through the day, but to thrive. He sustains me in each daily trial. He provides me with nourishing food to eat, both physically and spiritually! He’s placed me in a community of wonderful people who know my Jesus as their Jesus, too! My Jesus sends little birds that tweet and make me smile. He sends me flowers to remind me to turn my face to the Son. He sends me little breezes to remind me that His Holy Spirit is all around me, informing my thoughts and filling me with His presence.
With my Jesus is fullness of joy. In His presence is peace. And all my Jesus wants is for me to be with Him now and forever. I could do everything in the world in His name, but if He isn’t my Jesus and if I’m not His child, then it doesn’t amount to anything. I could lead tons of people to find their Jesus, but if I haven’t truly found my Jesus, then I’m lost. And even when I’m lost, my Jesus finds me. He will always leave the other ninety-nine sheep and come after me.
Friend, my Jesus longs to be your Jesus, too. He’s already left the ninety-nine to go look for you. I long to help Him find you and to help you find Him. If you’ve never lived a life with Him, He’s waiting and He’s so excited to live it with you! If you have lived a life with Him, but lost your focus, He’s already beginning to draw you back to Him. Remember, He’s your Jesus! All of heaven is rejoicing to know that you love and choose Him. That’s how special you are to Him. He has loved you with an everlasting love. Your Jesus is waiting for you. Don’t wait; later may never come. Make Jesus your Jesus.
