Ruthie Roque, a senior business administration major, was officially elected Student Association (SA) social vice president at 11:00 p.m. on Feb. 26. Ballots were sent out for a revote a week after the first election due to a close race and a glitch in the voting system. She ran against incumbent Jordan Collazo, a freshman social work major, and won by 116 votes. A total of 800 students voted. Roque received 458 votes, and Collazo received 342.
Roque was excited to learn of her win and felt relieved that the campaign was over.
“Now I can just focus on doing the job itself,” she said. “I’m so ready. Not only will I promise to do my dutiful responsibilities, but I’ll show you what that looks like through these events.”
In an interview with the Accent, she addressed the student body.
“Thank you for trusting the responsibility to me, and I won’t let you down,” she said. “I’m ready to exceed your expectations.”
