A student was injured after crashing his skateboard on Southern Adventist University’s campus at approximately 6 p.m. this evening. Dennis Negrón, vice president for Student Development, confirmed that the injured individual is a Southern student.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 6:08 p.m. and assisted Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), according to Nathan Lewis, public information officer for the fire department. EMS transported the student to a local hospital. The student’s condition was unknown when the Accent spoke to Lewis at 8:22 p.m.

The incident occurred in the entrance to the Thatcher Hall side parking lot adjacent to University Drive. Jaime Heath, assistant chief of police for the Collegedale Police Department, confirmed that no vehicles were involved in the incident. In a call with the Accent, Heath said the wheels of the student’s skateboard caught something, like a manhole cover, causing the student to crash.
