At about 8 a.m. today, a water pipe burst near Student Park at Southern Adventist University. An Eastside Utility District crew was able to contain the leak two hours later.
When the crew arrived, it shut off one pipeline next to the entrance of Student Park, decreasing the pressure of the burst enough to direct water away from overhead power lines. The crew also shut off another pipeline located near the fields behind Hulsey Wellness Center. Eastside Utility workers at the scene told the Accent that they also completely shut off power lines above the burst to prevent electrical damage.
The Village Market lost water but not power, they added. The crew was unsure when the pipe would be fixed and water turned back on. The Accent contacted the Village Market at 1 p.m. Its workers do not know when the building will regain water.
The Eastside Utility crew said the burst pipeline is not a domestic line and is possibly a fire-reserve line leading to or from a water tower.
