Collegedale Academy (CA) has a school resource officer (SRO) for the first time in the academy’s history, according to a press release from the Collegedale Police Department. Officer Cordario Eatmon was introduced to the school on Nov. 28 by Brent Baldwin, CA head of school.
In the press release, Collegedale Police Chief Jack Sapp said the city’s police department had never before provided an SRO to a school, and the new position was the result of a partnership between CA and Collegedale. The position was approved in a CA school board meeting and unanimously approved by the Collegedale Board of Commissioners.
Sapp was quoted in the release saying: “This is no small feat, and one I’m extremely proud of being a part of. Creating a partnership with a private school system that doesn’t typically staff SROs is a giant leap forward in maintaining the safety and security of our city’s most valued treasures.”
Eatmon, a former officer with the Murfreesboro Police Department and special agent with the Tennessee Department of Corrections, said in the release that he chose to be an SRO to “have a positive impact on the lives of young people.”
